On some U.S. campuses, asking ‘Where are you from?’ is considered a ‘microaggression’

Asking someone of colour or any minority “Where are you from or where were you born?” guidelines suggest, could send the message that ‘you are not a true American’

  1. not sure if it’s a microaggression, but in my lifetime of that question being asked of me, it was not to solicit the response “Windsor”. Rather what my ethnicity is. As the Windor response always elicited a “where are your parents from”.
